Otatara Marae Wharekai
Working on Marae projects is always a privilege, and this new Wharekai for Otatara Marae in Waima, near Kaikohe, was no different.
The new Wharekai was to replace the old, not fit-for-purpose Wharekai. You can tell from the pictures that it’s done just that. This new marae building will hold hui for years to come, and compliments fully the Wharenui positioned right beside it.
The cladding and roofing was chosen to match in with the existing wharenui. A full commercial kitchen with multiple preparation areas was included in the specification, and features wash down surfaces – great for hygiene.
To help with acoustic control, we specified Autex acoustic vertiface and a Decortech acoustic ceiling in the main dining area of the Wharekai. This greatly assists with ‘soaking up’ noise whilst dining.
