Every year, April Fools’ Day gives us an excuse to step slightly outside the lines — to imagine, to experiment, and to have a bit of fun with the built environment. This year we decided to lean right into it.

Bay of Islands Overwater Villas
We posted what appeared to be a bold new coastal development — a string of UFO pod-like dwellings stretching across a bay in the Bay of Islands. What’s not to be liked about it, right?
At first glance, it felt almost plausible: modular design, prefabrication, coastal living. But look a little closer… and yes, those forms might look suspiciously familiar. We got the idea from the Shebara Resort on the Red Sea.

We decided that the Hole in the Rock was unsafe and that it should be concreted. A sad day for tourists.

As much as we had plenty of fun coming up with crazy ideas for April Fools’, we also have equal amounts of enjoyment of working with our clients and their design and development projects. You can tell we have plenty of creative ideas!
All jokes aside, April is a great time to start the design of your project. Everyone has settled down and got into the swing of the year, and we’re staring down the barrel of winter, which is great to be indoors planning your project to kick off in Spring.
